Draped Liberty, reverse wreath. Reverse of 1796 (LIBERTY line) vs. later styles; the 1799 and 1804 are the date keys. Sheldon numbers run into the hundreds.
History
The workhorse large cent of the Adams and Jefferson years. 1799 is the rarest regular-date large cent; 1804 is the other album hole. Most surviving coins are dark and granular from poor copper. Condition census pieces with a chocolate planchet are four- and five-figure coins.
