Small eagle 1795–98; heraldic eagle 1798–1804. The 1804 dollar is a 1830s diplomatic striking, not a circulating 1804 coin — Class I, II, and III originals and restrikes.
History
The dollar of the Adams and Jefferson years. Heraldic-eagle dates are collectible; small-eagle 1795–98 are scarce type coins. No dollars 1805–1835. The 1804 'original' was struck for presentation sets in 1834 — fifteen Class I pieces are the stuff of legend.
