History

The first dollar coin since 1935, sized like a silver dollar so Nevada casinos could keep using existing slots. Clad circulating issues and 40% silver collector strikes from San Francisco run in parallel. 1973-S silver proofs and 1972 Type 2 reverse (Earth) are the variety chases. The coin was too large for pockets and died after eight years, replaced by the smaller Susan B. Anthony dollar.
