Union shield reverse with THIRTEEN VERTICAL STRIPES and a scroll reading ONE CENT. West Point issued 2019 'W' cents as a circulating commemorative.

History

After four 2009 bicentennial reverses tracing Lincoln’s life, the Mint settled on a Union shield — a nod to Lincoln as wartime president. The 2019-W cents, found in circulation, were the first West Point mint-marked circulating cents and created a modern hunt. Proof and reverse-proof issues from San Francisco remain the condition census for registry sets. The type is still current.
