Design
Liberty in a winged cap (misread as Mercury). Reverse a fasces and olive branch — strength and peace — designed as the U.S. edged toward world war.
History
Weinman’s dime is among the most beautiful U.S. coins. Full-bands (split central bands on the fasces) is the strike standard. 1916-D is the key, with a mintage under 265,000. 1921 and 1921-D are semi-keys; 1942/41 overdates exist at Philadelphia and Denver. The series ran through both world wars and ended the year the second one did. Mercury dimes remain a silver bullion and type-coin staple.
