Design
Liberty after Teresa de Francisci, radiating crown in the manner of a Roman aureus. Reverse an eagle at rest on a peak with PEACE on the rock — the only circulating U.S. coin to use the word.
History
A commemorative idea that became a regular issue: a dollar to mark the end of the Great War. 1921 is high relief, struck late in the year in small numbers. Relief was lowered in 1922 so the Mint could actually produce them. 1928 has the lowest mintage; 1934-S is the mint-state stopper. Production paused after 1928, resumed 1934–35. Like the Morgan, Peace returned as a collector coin in 2021 and after.
